While they don't do much in regards to protection from radiation, there's a certain comfort people get out of wearing respirators. They're normally reserved for children or miners reclaiming forgotten tunnels deep in the mines. They're pretty expensive, so most can only be found in the more powerful tribes, but some smaller tribes barter for them with travelling merchants to protect their workers or for emergencies. Single-use ones are manufactured by the military as a emergency stockpile to distribute, but otherwise only higher tech ones have lasted the test of time.
